In order to ensure the next generation of practitioners have ample opportunity to expand their network, knowledge and experience of the sector, Young AMINZ Membership is free of charge to students, practitioners and younger members of the profession for a limited period of 10 years.

Young AMINZ membership is separate to AMINZ membership. However, Young AMINZ members are encouraged to register and attend any regular AMINZ events that are of interest throughout the year. You can be a member of both, should you wish!

  • A passionate advocate for dispute resolution from the get-go, Isabelle’s interest in mediation started at the University of Auckland and during her participation as the first New Zealand team to win the Paris International Chamber of Commerce Commercial Mediation Competition.  

    Now an Associate at insurance law firm Wotton + Kearney, Isabelle’s appreciation for what the mediation process offers to parties continues to grow. She has seen first-hand how the flexibility and sensitivity of mediation is especially advantageous in insurance disputes, particularly in situations with competing interests and deeply personal and emotional investments.  

    Isabelle has experience in handling a wide range of liability claims and particularly focuses on the areas of public liability, professional liability, medico-legal and life sciences, and statutory liability. She has a strong focus on dispute resolution, having assisted with defending insureds in court and tribunal proceedings, and alternative dispute resolution approaches, including mediation and judicial settlement conferences, and is an accredited mediator. 

    Isabelle also assists with advising insurers on indemnity disputes and the impact of evolving regulatory frameworks for financial services in New Zealand. 

    Isabelle began her career with a major New Zealand life insurer in 2016 and has since worked with law firms specialising in insurance law

  • Diana Qiu is a junior barrister at Thorndon Chambers.  Her practice comprises of public, commercial and international law matters, including investor-state arbitration.  In addition to being a co-chair of Young AMINZ, Diana is the New Zealand representative on the Asia-Pacific Forum for International Arbitration.  She was also the 2022 recipient of the AMINZ Determinative Scholarship and assisted in publishing the Inaugural Aotearoa New Zealand Arbitration Survey Report. 

    Diana has published on arbitration and international law matters.  Her first article, which examined how to determine the laws applicable to commercial arbitration, was published in the academic journal of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.  It was also included in a United Nations bibliography on writings related to the work of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law. 

    Prior to joining Thorndon Chambers, Diana was a judge's clerk to the President of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand | Te Kōti Pīra o Aotearoa.  She was also a Teaching Fellow at the Faculty of Law at Victoria University of Wellington | Te Herenga Waka.
